1. How does the glucose trick work?

The glucose trick originates from Jessie Inchauspé, a French nutritional personality who promotes a new way of eating on Instagram. The promise: You only need to follow a few tricks to lose weight without sacrificing anything, resulting in an improvement to your health.

The basis of this concept is the influence of blood sugar levels. This is not only relevant for people with diabetes, but can be a trigger for cravings, fatigue and mood swings in all of us. To avoid this, blood sugar should be kept in balance as much as possible. On the other hand, sharp increases in blood sugar, such as those that occur after eating sweets and carbohydrate-rich meals, should be avoided.

In four tricks, Inchauspé shows how to maintain this balance without significantly changing one's own diet.

2. Start the day right!

The first rule of the glucose trick relates to breakfast. According to Jessie, we determine how our blood sugar levels behave throughout the day with our very first meal. That's why she recommends starting with a hearty meal built around a protein source.

And the great thing; an Almased shake is particularly suitable as a blood sugar-friendly breakfast! Due to its special formula, the multi-component protein it contains provides the body with all essential amino acids. In addition, Almased provides the body with all those important micronutrients and can be prepared with little effort.

Here's how Almased boosts your morning!

3. Vegetables first.

The rule for all meals: vegetables first, carbohydrates last! This is supposed to slow down the digestion process of carbohydrates and allow glucose to enter the blood slowly1.

In order to really implement this, meals must be consumed according to their individual components. With steak, fries and salad, it's still simple: first the salad, then the steak and finally the carbohydrate-rich fries. However, when it comes to dishes such as pizza, soup or casserole, this rule can also be a little more complicated.

Here, Inchauspé recommends simply incorporating a small salad before the actual meal. In this way, the carbohydrates reach the intestine with a time delay while you also feel fuller faster.

4. Vinegar before meals.

It's not just a salad that makes a good appetizer for the glucose trick. A tablespoon of apple cider vinegar should also be taken regularly before meals. Stir into a glass of water, or as part of a dressing on top of the appetizer salad.

Vinegar is said to ensure that blood sugar levels do not rise as much after meals2. However, this effect is controversial among experts with evidence showing consumption of pure apple cider vinegar on an empty stomach can also have negative effects and lead to hyperacidity.

It's best to try what works for you and skip the vinegar if you don't feel comfortable with it. That said, if you rely on Almased as a healthy meal, you don't need any additional vinegar to regulate blood sugar levels.

5. Get physically active after eating.

As the saying goes, "After eating, you should rest or take a thousand steps," the glucose trick also recommends some form of exercise after eating. A short walk, a short yoga session, or even smaller gymnastic exercises on the sofa are suitable here.

The best time to reduce the rise in blood sugar by exercising is 20 minutes after eating. This allows the active muscle cells to absorb the sugar from the blood directly and use it as an energy source.

It has been questioned whether physical activity must take place directly after the meal. However, exercise in general plays a very important role in our glucose metabolism. When we exercise regularly, our muscles can absorb sugar more effectively and blood sugar balance can be maintained.

6. Here's how the glucose trick works with Almased!

  • Almased as a breakfast allows a stress-free and blood-sugar-friendly start to the day! In this way, the glucose trick succeeds without much effort.
  • Instead of a salad, you can also drink a small shake before your main meal. This way, you will be fuller faster and provide your body with all the important nutrients.
  • The multi-component protein in Almased supports you during exercise and promotes muscle building. In this way, you can benefit from more active muscle cells in the long term and keep your blood sugar in balance.

7. Who is Jessie Inchauspé?

Jessie Inchauspé is a French biochemist who advocates and provides simple tips for a diet that is low on blood sugar on her Instagram account Glucose-Goddess. In many colourful illustrations, she explains how our blood sugar behaves after different meals.

In addition, she is the author of the international bestseller "Glucose Revolution", in which she describes how to escape the roller coaster of blood sugar levels. The book also presents  how to use the glucose trick to maintain good skin condition and lose weight easily.

8. Why are blood sugar levels so important?

Blood sugar plays a very important role in our body's energy metabolism. If there is a high concentration of sugar in the blood, this is a signal to our metabolism to build fat and muscle mass. If you want to lose weight, you should pay attention to balanced blood sugar levels and keep them between 90 and 140 mg/dl after meals.

If blood sugar levels are above this range for a long period of time, sugar structures are deposited in our vessels which can promote the development of diseases. Hypoglycaemia is also a consequence of sharp increases in blood sugar. Sounding strange at first, but when blood sugar rises rapidly, it falls again just as quickly. These hypoglycaemias can then lead to mood swings and cravings. In addition, there is an undersupply of brain cells in the short term - we then perceive this condition as a headache3.

9. Blemished skin caused by too much sugar?

Anyone who has ever been to the dermatologist to get tips for a clearer complexion knows how important a healthy diet is. With the consumption of products rich in sugar and fat, pimples and blemishes can develop even in adulthood.

The reason for this is often elevated blood sugar levels, because if we have a lot of sugar in our blood, our body releases the hormone insulin. This ensures that the sugar from our blood enters the cells and blood sugar drops again. However, insulin also has other effects in our body and can upset the hormonal balance if it is released higher than normal quantities.

The glucose trick promises a better complexion by keeping blood sugar stable and avoiding excessive insulin secretions. Almased not only keeps blood sugar stable, but also supports healthy skin with the vitamin C*, zinc and biotin** it contains.

*Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for normal skin function.

**Zinc and biotin contribute to the maintenance of normal skin.

11. Conclusion: Does the glucose trick make sense?

The impact of blood sugar on our health, well-being and weight cannot be underestimated. Nevertheless, it is not mandatory to strictly adhere to all rules of the glucose trick to do something good for your own body.

Balanced meals and regular physical activity really are the key here. It is recommended to consume carbohydrates in combination with vegetables, protein or healthy fats and to avoid sweet snacks between meals. In this way, a solid foundation for the healthy regulation of blood sugar is created.

Almased promotes a healthy balance of blood sugar and promotes a natural feeling of satiety. In this way, cravings are effectively prevented even during the diet! An Almased shake provides the optimal ratio of nutrients and ensures that blood sugar levels rise only slowly. In more than 30 scientific studies, we have demonstrated this unique Almased effect.
